On Friday, 28 June, over 100 dolphins became stranded in the shallow mudflats off Cape Cod during low tide.
This is the largest dolphin mass stranding in US history! The sheer number of dolphins, in addition to the deep mud, made this rescue extremely challenging, but our team was committed to saving as many dolphins as possible and over 100 dolphins were herded back into deeper waters.
However, there is a high likelihood of the dolphins re-stranding. Our staff and volunteers are continuing to herd dolphins away from the shallow waters and helping them when they become stranded. As more strandings are expected, we will continue to need rescue supplies and equipment. Additionally, our mobile rescue clinic was damaged during the mass stranding on Friday and will need repairs. Your gift today could help provide:
- fuel and maintenance for our rescue vessels and vehicles
- dry suits and life jackets for staff and volunteers
- dolphin stretchers and rescue equipment
- medical supplies to treat injuries
- heart rate monitors to assess the health of dolphins
Any amount could help now and in future animal rescue operations on Cape Cod and around the world.
Thank you for being part of the rescue!
