A devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the countries of Turkey and Syria on Monday, 6 February 2023.
Search and rescue efforts continue in spite of overwhelming logistical challenges and severe winter weather. We are working with local animal rescue teams: House of Cats Ernesto, Haytap Animal Rights Federation, Angel’s Farm Sanctuary and Watan Foundation in the hardest-hit communities and, with our help, they are taking action on the following priorities:
- Emergency interventions for displaced animals
- Veterinary triage for injured animals
- Field assessments to identify unmet animal needs
Rescue teams will be working for the next few weeks, if not months. The road to recovery will be long.
While human relief agencies are helping people, IFAW helps animals and their families impacted by disasters worldwide. IFAW has decades of disaster response experience, so our teams and partners are expertly equipped to help animals and people in even the direst emergencies.
