BREAKING NEWS: Over 100 dolphins stranded off Cape Cod, but more strandings expected. Help now >>

On Friday, June 28, over 100 dolphins became stranded in the shallow mudflats off Cape Cod during low tide.

This was the largest single mass stranding event in IFAW’s response history over 26 years. The sheer number of dolphins, in addition to the deep mud, made this rescue a very difficult task, but our teams were committed to saving as many dolphins as possible and over 100 dolphins were herded into deeper waters.

However, there is a high likelihood of dolphins re-stranding. Our staff and volunteers are continuing to herd dolphins away from the shallow waters, and rescuing dolphins when they do become stranded. As more strandings are expected, we will continue to need rescue supplies. Our mobile rescue clinic suffered some damage during the mass stranding on Friday and will need repairs. Your gift today could help provide:

  • fuel and maintenance for our rescue vessels and vehicles
  • dry suits and life jackets for staff and volunteers
  • dolphin stretchers and rescue equipment
  • medical supplies to treat injuries
  • heart rate monitors to assess the health of dolphins

Any amount could help now and in future animal rescue operations on Cape Cod and around the world.

Thank you for being part of the rescue!
