Severe drought in Africa is threatening the survival of hundreds of elephants, along with other precious wildlife. In this land of rich biodiversity, rivers have receded and watering holes have turned to mud, leaving elephants and other wildlife frighteningly thin and dehydrated.
That’s why we started our Water is Life project. It’s a bold, innovative solution that can help elephants and other animals survive frequent and intense drought.
Water Is Life combines hard work and technological innovation to:
- Scoop out watering holes to clear silt and mud and bring in new water from underground so that animals can reach it
- Drill for new water and lay new pipes with updated materials
- Create and repair watering stations to help wild animals stay hydrated and away from farmland where they may come into conflict with humans
- Solarize and modernize water pumps to provide more water and reduce reliance on fossil fuels
